Messages from Manor

Dear Parents and Carers

We are in full swing now with routines in place and the children settled into the patterns of learning. All children should now be coming home with a book to read each week and will be into the flow of lessons. Amongst this vital day-to-day, brick by brick, deliberate building of learning, we are adding in other elements such as electing house captains, school council, reading champions, sports leaders, lunchtime helpers etc. We have had visits such as a firefighter to EYFS and Mr Vaughan from Rawlett for Year 6. We have entered lots of sporting events which start next week with cross-country then girls' football, then we have Y5 Bikeability. Teachers are also booking visits and planning Harvest. Instrumental tuition lessons have started in KS2 and school council have today met with the House Captains to set a school house point target by the end of this half term. They chose the reward of swapping classes for a lesson - Penguins with Swans and EYFS with Owls. KS2 children seemed to be nostalgic for sitting on the carpet!

A good mix of the essential organised routines sprinkled with the extras that bring school to life.

Labelling Uniform

Thank you for all of your hard work labelling uniform at the start of term. It really does make a huge difference in finding owners of lost clothing in school. Labels can start to fall out or fade with washing after a few weeks so it might be worth checking that names are still visible. Thank you for your support with this.

Parking

The ladies in the office have not had to deal with any complaints so far this term from our neighbours in the village, which hopefully means they are happy with the parking at drop-off and pick-up times! Thank you for your consideration in not blocking the access to the back of New Row beside the church.

Please could we ask that parents respect the yellow lines that are painted outside school to keep the crossing point clear during busy times. If you are a bit late and struggling to park, please don't cause a hazard. We would much rather you drove a bit further and walked, even if it makes you a little bit late, than create a danger for yourself, your child or others. Thank you for your support.

Operation Encompass

Some of our new parents may not know that our school, along with most Staffordshire schools, are part of Operation Encompass. This means that any domestic abuse incidents reported to the police where children from our school are part of the household, are also reported to the school's DSL (Designated Safeguarding Lead) who has been appropriately trained.

We are simply told the time an incident has taken place (no further detail) and the child was present/not present. We can then keep an eye out for the child and offer them some flexibility and understanding if there are changes in behaviour and any extra time or attention that they need.

Tamworth District Family Services

There are lots of resources and services for families in the Tamworth area but it can sometimes be difficult to track down the right resource at the right time. There is now a 'Padlet' that has been created to keep all these in one place. Click the link below to access it:

Volunteers

Manor has a wonderful community of families and friends who love the school and are willing to give their time freely to support the children and staff. Without this community support it would be very hard to sustain the high standards we do. It has been a busy start to the school year and we have been very grateful to the volunteers who have supported us in various ways.

If you have a bit of spare time and would be able to spend it helping us to help the children then we would love to hear from you. Jobs can involve things like:

  • preparing resources for teachers
  • hearing children read
  • supporting an activity in EYFS
  • sitting with a child to support them in class
  • tidying, cleaning and organising the indoor or outdoor environment e.g. the library books or the PE and play equipment
  • supporting on visits or forest school

If you fancy getting involved then do speak to a member of staff or the office staff. We will require a short application form and DBS checks as part of our safeguarding before you will be able to start, but any support would be very welcome.

Phonics Workshop

Mrs Armstrong has booked in a workshop for Reception parents (5-6pm on 1st October) to look at how we teach phonics at Manor. She will go through what 'phonics' are, how to pronounce sounds, the order of teaching and the do's and don'ts of teaching phonics. There will also be tips on how you can help your child at home... essential for all Reception parents if you are able to make it.
