Messages from Manor

Dear Parents and Carers

It has been a great start to the term. The children have come back reinvigorated and it is great to see so many new faces in our EYFS. We hope you have found the new term to be positive and that anyone who is new to the school is finding their feet, feeling welcomed and enjoying the friendly feel of Manor.

Please do take the chance to speak to staff before or after school, including Mr Robson at the gate, if you have any questions, compliments or concerns. We are always happy to help or just chat.

We have held our democratic elections for House Captains and School Council this week with some very wise choices made by the children. They will be announced in our next newsletter.

Do enjoy the following Newsletter. For our new parents, this is a fortnightly publication and contains lots of important information as well as the highlights of our school news. A must read for all parents, even if you just skim past some bits! Sorry that the dates section is a bit thin at the moment but that is on Mr Robson's list of jobs to add dates to the website calendar once Mr Lloyd is back in Swans!

Finally, A huge thank you once again to the garden fairies who snuck into school towards the end of the summer and freshened up the plant pots around school with bright and beautiful flowers after the drought in the summer. June Hemus and Jenny Turner were the leaders of the gang of fairies, I believe, but thank you to all their helpers too. School looks fabulous thanks to you!

Mr Lloyd is a father!

Mr Lloyd has become the father to a beautiful baby girl and he and his partner have enjoyed the last two weeks of paternity leave to greet her and spend time at home together.

Swans have missed him, but Mr Robson, Mrs Mason, Mrs Newson and a couple of days of supply have had the pleasure and privilege of looking after them at the start of the year. They will be delighted to hear that Mr Lloyd will be back on Tuesday next week.

Read to the Beat - Summer Reading Challenge

Final chance this weekend to complete the library summer reading challenge! Children who have brought their medal to school have been given 10 house points each! Why not pop into the library and borrow some free books this weekend?

Book Swap Library

The shed at the front of school is full of books for children and adults for you to help yourselves to. Feel free to take any book you fancy reading. It is not compulsory, but feel free to also leave any good quality books if you need the space at home.

The doors will be closed on wet days, but do open them to have a look!

PTA

Our Manor PTA have been working miracles for the last few years. This is despite the fact that there are only a small handful of people regularly involved.

The PTA are at the heart of our school, organising all the nice, social, fun aspects that staff don't have the time to do. They also raise thousands of pounds each year that support the extras that allow enrichment of our school's offer. They also have fun doing it!

If you are new to the school and want to meet people and get involved in the life of the school, or you have been with us for a while and feel confident to step forward now, please do make yourselves known to any staff member who will direct you to a PTA member to see how you can join and help out.

The PTA AGM is coming up soon so all are welcome to attend. If you can't make the meeting, let us know and we can pass on your details.

Volunteers

Manor has a wonderful community of families and friends who love the school and are willing to give their time freely to support the children and staff. Without this community support it would be very hard to sustain the high standards we do. It has been a busy start to the school year and we have been very grateful to the volunteers who have supported us in various ways.

If you have a bit of spare time and would be able to spend it helping us to help the children then we would love to hear from you. Jobs can involve things like:

  • preparing resources for teachers
  • hearing children read
  • supporting an activity in EYFS
  • sitting with a child to support them in class
  • tidying, cleaning and organising the indoor or outdoor environment e.g. the library books or the PE and play equipment
  • supporting on visits or forest school

If you fancy getting involved then do speak to a member of staff or the office staff. We will require a short application form and DBS checks as part of our safeguarding before you will be able to start, but any support would be very welcome.

Governors

We have been very lucky to have an influx of applications to be governors at Manor recently. Other schools have not been so lucky and are still short of governors. Mr Hand, the Fierté MAT vice-CEO has asked me to add the following message that I would urge you to consider:

Fierté Multi-Academy Trust is a successful and ambitious family of ten primary schools across Staffordshire, educating more than 2,200 pupils. Through our schools and Our Pride Our Joy nursery and wraparound provision, we support children and families from their earliest years through primary education.

Our vision, "Proudly inspiring all to excellence", drives everything we do. We are committed to providing the very best education, supporting every child to thrive, and working closely with our communities.

We are looking for parents, carers and members of the community who share our values and would like to help shape the future of our organisation as a Governor, Trustee or Director of Our Pride Our Joy. You do not need a background in education. We welcome people with experience in business, finance, law, leadership, governance, risk management or other professional fields, as well as those who can bring enthusiasm, commitment and fresh perspectives.

These voluntary roles offer a rewarding opportunity to:

· Help shape the strategic direction of our Trust, schools and Nurseries.

· Support and challenge leaders to achieve the best outcomes for children.

· Contribute your skills and experience to your local community.

· Make a lasting difference to the lives of children and families.

Full induction, training and ongoing support are provided, making these roles accessible to both experienced governors and trustees and those new to governance. Please contact Tony Hand, Vice-CEO for further information or to express your interest in one of the roles available: viceceo@fierte.org.

Safeguarding

At Manor Primary our Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) is Mr Robson and our Deputy DSL (DDSL) is Mrs Armstrong. If you ever have any concerns about any children or adults within our school community, please do speak to us. Even if your concern is only minor, and it may be nothing, it could equally be something we don't know and could be an important piece in a jigsaw. We would always rather you told us something that ends up being inconsequential than not mention something that might end up being important. It is never a waste of our time.

Our new safeguarding policy is available on the school website.

Clubs

Our KS2 football club is up and running on a Wednesday with our new sports coach Mr Smith. There are still a few spaces left if any Owls or Penguins fancy a go.

Nut Free School

This year we have several new children who have joined us with severe nut allergies. It is important that any food sent into school does not contain nuts. Those sending snacks or packed lunches, we would ask you to please check ingredients carefully to avoid any contamination as far as possible.

This also includes any boxes you may send in for things like junk modelling that classes may do. Please avoid boxes that may have contained nuts.

Thank you for your help in keeping our children safe.
