Mr Lloyd's Paternity Leave!

Yes, for those of you who didn't know, Mr Lloyd and his partner, Libby, are expecting a baby at the end of the summer. He will be taking a couple of weeks of paternity leave which will most likely coincide with the start of the autumn term in September. We have plans in place to cover his absence and ensure that his time with his new baby remains sacrosanct and undisturbed.

Changes this year. Instead of read 6 books, it is visit your library 3 times between 4^th July and 14^th September. Every time you come in to borrow books you will receive rewards.

1^st visit – starter pack, magazine, stickers with a QR code which lead to games and mini videos

2^nd visit – stickers

3^rd visit – stickers, certificate, badge and medal

And of course they are running the school trophy again this year for the highest percentage participation, so come on Manor - we have been top 10 in recent years - why not top this year?!

KS2 SATS Results

The Year 6 children received their SATS results yesterday and they had much to celebrate. 

As a school we were above the national average figures in every subject.

Those children who didn't quite achieve the 'expected standard' are actually among the children we are most proud of. They worked so hard, made brilliant progress, and only missed out by a handful of marks across several tests, showing incredible resilience when they found some aspects of learning difficult.

We also have a challenge to make when the window opens for a reading test that missed by 1 mark, and we feel it has a question that was marked wrongly. If we succeed, the reading score will match the maths in the table above!

Our strong results have contributed to some excellent results across the Fierté schools with big improvements in most subjects from previous years. In fact, the combined score for reading, writing and maths in Fierté Trust was 67.4%, a rise of 5.9%.

Well done to all of Year 6 – we are so proud of you.

Drayton Bassett Parish Council Logo Design Competition

Don't forget to get your entries in for the Parish Council logo competition.

Each entry should include:

• The completed logo design
• The entrant’s name, age, and school
• A short description (no more than 50 words) explaining the design and its inspiration

Submission formats:

• Paper entries (A4 size recommended)
• Digital entries (JPEG or PNG format)

Entries can be submitted via school or directly to the Parish Council by the stated deadline.

The competition starts on 1st June 2026 and the submission deadline is 31st July 2026. The winner will be announced in September 2026.

Prize & Recognition

• The winning entrant will receive a certificate and a £300 donation to their school PTA.
• The winning design will become the official Parish Council logo (with any adjustments as required for reproduction)
• Runners-up may also receive certificates or commendations
• Selected entries may be displayed in the village

Terms & Conditions

• By entering, participants agree that their design may be used, adapted, and reproduced by Drayton Bassett Parish Council
• The Parish Council reserves the right to make minor modifications to the winning design for professional use
• Entries must be submitted before the deadline to be considered
• The judges’ decision is final

Ear Piercing and Swimming

Remember, this is the time if you are keen to get a child's ears pierced, so they have time to heal before they have to be taken out for PE in 6 weeks' time. 

Some of Owls will be starting their swimming lessons on Tuesday 8th September, the second week back. We don't want any to miss out if they can't take earrings out. 

The summer is also a good time to build confidence in the water for any Owls so they can make the most of their lessons in the autumn term.

National Survey for Children - The Big Future

Children's Commissioner, Dame Rachel de Souza has sent the following survey for children to complete. 

The Big Future

Younger children can do it with an adult or it can be done on their behalf by parents. It should take 5-10 minutes and helps have our children's voices heard at a national level.

Sports Day

We eventually found the Goldilocks weather (not too hot, not too wet...) to get our sports day on after a couple of failed attempts. The children sat together in their teams this year which worked well with older children looking after the younger ones beautifully. After several years of Dudley (red) winning, there was a change this year with a very tight win for Bryan (yellow). The main aim of 'having fun' was achieved with the support of PTA keeping everyone refreshed (Thank You!). It was a very wholesome experience to hear the support from adults and children cheering for all, whether they finished first or last. Thank you for your support.
