Transition

As we reach the end of the school year we are looking at preparations for children moving up to the next year group. For some this will mean the same classroom and teacher but different class mates from the year below. For others it will mean a new classroom and teacher with new classmates from the year above. As a small school with mixed age classes, the transitions are often less daunting. Children are familiar with the teachers and the environment, but there is still going to be the odd worry and uncertainty. 

Next week, most of our Year 6 are out at days at their new high schools so we will take the opportunity to have a 'move up day' in school. Children will come in and register as normal then will have a brief assembly then return to their new class where they will stay for the rest of the day. This will allow them to get to know their new teacher, new classmates and, for half of them, a new classroom. They will do getting to know you activities and look at how their new class is going to work come September.

Current Nursery children will stay with Mrs Armstrong (possibly helped by a couple of Year 6's with non-Tamworth high schools) and they will be joined for a stay and play by their new friends from 1:30-2:30pm. 

Children will return to their current classes to be dismissed at the end of the day as normal.

This day should allay any fears and answer any questions they might have.

For parents, there is the chance to attend a short meeting at the end of school, with their child's teacher for next year. This might be the first chance you have had to meet them or your child may have been with them for the last year already. Whichever is the case, there will be important information to be shared by the teachers and the chance to ask any questions about next year.

3:30pm - Tues 7th July - Year 3/4 (current Y2/3)  in Owls with Mr Forman

3:30pm - Wed 8th July - Year 5/6 (current Y4/5)  in Penguins with Mr Culff

3:30pm - Thurs 9th July - Year 1/2 (current YR/1)  in Swans with Mr Lloyd

Changes this year. Instead of read 6 books, it is visit your library 3 times between 4^th July and 14^th September. Every time you come in to borrow books you will receive rewards.

1^st visit – starter pack, magazine, stickers with a QR code which lead to games and mini videos

2^nd visit – stickers

3^rd visit – stickers, certificate, badge and medal

Drayton Bassett Parish Council Logo Design Competition

Don't forget to get your entries in for the Parish Council logo competition.

Each entry should include:

• The completed logo design
• The entrant’s name, age, and school
• A short description (no more than 50 words) explaining the design and its inspiration

Submission formats:

• Paper entries (A4 size recommended)
• Digital entries (JPEG or PNG format)

Entries can be submitted via school or directly to the Parish Council by the stated deadline.

The competition starts on 1st June 2026 and the submission deadline is 31st July 2026. The winner will be announced in September 2026.

Prize & Recognition

• The winning entrant will receive a certificate and a £300 donation to their school PTA.
• The winning design will become the official Parish Council logo (with any adjustments as required for reproduction)
• Runners-up may also receive certificates or commendations
• Selected entries may be displayed in the village

Terms & Conditions

• By entering, participants agree that their design may be used, adapted, and reproduced by Drayton Bassett Parish Council
• The Parish Council reserves the right to make minor modifications to the winning design for professional use
• Entries must be submitted before the deadline to be considered
• The judges’ decision is final

Ear Piercing

While in no way encouraging anyone to get their children's ears pierced, can we recommend that now is the time to book children in for the start of the 6 week holiday if this is something you wish to do. Our school policy says that earrings must be removed to do PE. Newly pierced ears often need to have earrings left in for 6 weeks. The only time in the year to avoid your child missing weeks of PE and have their ears pierced is to have them done immediately after we break up for the summer in 2 weeks time. Thank you for your support.

Pick Up Arrangements

Please can we remind parents and carers that our parental agreement at Manor and across Fierté schools says that a nominated person for pickup of children must be aged 16 or above. 

The exceptions to this are when Year 5 and 6 children have permission to walk home or to a car on their own. Also, there may be exceptional circumstances where an agreement can be reached with the headteacher e.g. an injury or disability, though we would often walk the child to meet their adult in these circumstances.

National Survey for Children - The Big Future

Children's Commissioner, Dame Rachel de Souza has sent the following survey for children to complete. 

The Big Future

Younger children can do it with an adult or it can be done on their behalf by parents. It should take 5-10 minutes and helps have our children's voices heard at a national level.

Sports Day

Attempt number three on Monday! The weather looks cloudy but dry and mild – perfect for a morning of fun and races on the field. Do join us if you can from 9:15am until about 11am.
