Messages from Manor

Dear Parents and Carers

Another busy half-term reaches its conclusion today. It was great to see our usual excellent turn out of parents to parents' evening where we usually get 100% take up. Parents and school working together to support the children is always the most powerful combination and that open team work and collaboration is something we take a pride in at Manor.

We also welcomed a good number of parents and carers to our music concert this morning where Penguins showed off their singing and 'tooting' skills learnt in the past term and a half of specialist music teaching by Mrs Garbutt. We also had performances from the flute, clarinet and guitar instrumental groups who were all amazing. It was also lovely to get the chance to hear Zach play his Grade 2 piano piece which was fabulous. As Mrs Garbutt said, we have a very talented group of children at Manor, and they are always a pleasure for her to teach.

It was a lovely way to round off the half-term along with the relaxed feel to school due to the non-uniform reward day today. We hope you have a great half term break!

New Term, New Topics

As we transition into a new half term, most classes will be starting their next topics in most subjects. If you would like to know what your child/ren are studying then the 'Curriculum' pages of the website should be the place to look. In maths and writing the units will vary in length but the other subjects will generally be 6 week half termly blocks. We are on 'Year B' of our two year cycle and are just entering the 'Spring 2' half term.

If you struggle to find anything and your children give the oft-heard response of a shrug and "nothing" when asked what they are doing at school, please do ask the teachers and they will be happy to let you know.

After School Clubs

Now our children have had the Kurling Club, we may actually win some Winter Olympic medals in the future instead of all these fourth places! It was lovely to hear our children talking about the technical terms of curling (yes, the game on ice is spelt with a 'c' and the children's version on wheels is spelt with a 'k'!) like guards and drawing with Millie, who has actually competed in skeleton as an elite athlete representing Team GB. They spent a bit of time watching the Team GB curling team on television before feeling inspired to have a game themselves.

Next half-term, Millie and Ronnie are going to be delivering a gymnastics club for Years 1–3 on a Monday and Years 4–6 on a Thursday. Places can be booked on Arbor on a first-come, first-served basis.

We also have Mrs Sheridan's club on a Wednesday, which will be a KS2 multi-sports club. This will allow some flexibility to do outdoor sports if the weather improves and gives a variety of activities for the children to enjoy. Again, first come, first served on Arbor.

Doughnuts Go Down a Delight!

We enjoy a deliciously delectable doughnut here at Manor (as part of a healthy balanced diet of course!) and the PTA undoubtedly delivered. They have made over £90 so far from this week's sales, with a bit more still to come.

Swimmers Make a Splash

Our swimming team represented the school brilliantly this week at the heats. They all behaved excellently and gave it their all in their races. We just need to wait and see if they make the top 6 times in their race from the heats held on three nights, and get through to any finals at the SnowDome. Whether they do or not they are all winners in our eyes already. The team were: Adaline, Adeline, Shivam, Imogen, Molly, Ruben, Pippa H, Grayson, Phoebe K, Bruno and Arrietty (who was poorly that day but is still part of the team!).

School Cook Appointed

We are delighted to announce that we have appointed a new school cook this week to start next half-term. Lindsey Fitzpatrick has many years of experience running a small school kitchen, so she will quickly be up to speed under the supervision of Laura Carr, our Fierté Trust catering manager. Welcome to Manor Primary Lindsey!

Calling all Girl Guides

We had a request from the local Girlguiding Division that any children who are part of a their movement are allowed to wear their Guides uniform to school on World Thinking Day which is Monday 23rd February. We would love to see any guides wearing their uniform if they wish.

Governor Vacancies

We continue to run with vacancies on our Local Governing Committee. We have an excellent select group of governors currently, but we have spaces for one more parent governor and another co-opted governor if anyone is interested.
