Messages from Manor

Dear Parents and Carers

Hard to believe we are already half way through this short, 4 week, half term! With an extra bank holiday this week and an INSET Day to come, it is flying by. We still seem to need to pack as much in as we do for a longer half term so it is very busy.

Next week is end of Key Stage 2 SATS for Year 6 children. Though these are important, the children are well-prepared and have nothing to worry about. We know they will do their best and that is all we can ask for. We are proud of the hard work they have done this year so far and the tests next week are a chance to show off what they have learnt in their time at primary school. Of course the work doesn't stop after the SATS, though there are some exciting things for Penguins to look forward to in the second (rather longer!) second half of the summer term, including end of year performances and the Laches Wood residential.

The end of year will also be a chance for the Year 6 to look back at their carefree days in EYFS such as today's 'Pirate Day'! The children looked great dressed up as pirates and had a great day hunting for treasure and having swashbuckling adventures. Oh, to be 5 years old again!

PTA Gardening

You may have seen the hard work already put in by a small team of PTA members in clearing the rotten wood from our school garden area by the car park. The area looks much tidier and is ready for developing - the fun bit! We have a 'Peace Garden' sign ready to go up and seating and planters ready to position as soon as we can get a path put in. We have another skip arriving after half term and potentially a volunteer to do some of the path building, but any extra help would be more than welcome. If you would be happy to spend an hour after drop off or before pick up doing a bit of digging etc. then please speak to a PTA member or member of staff.

We have also had some very kind volunteers who have added some plants to the trough at the front of school and the beds around the edges of the new garden.

We would love the 'Peace Garden' to be open for children to use before the end of the summer term.

Thank you to all who have already helped to improve the school environment for our children.

Ofsted

It is nearly 2 months since our Ofsted inspection and we are still waiting for the report to be published! We received a draft report on Monday last week and responded the same day with a couple of factual/grammatical corrections but we haven't heard anything since. As soon as we are allowed to, we will share the report with you. Hopefully any day now!

Getting Active

At the Trust Student Leaders' meeting last half term the children decided that they would like to run a campaign to get pupils moving and more active. They asked schools to run a poster competition to spread the message. This is something we will ask children to do in school time over the next few weeks.

We also discussed this message at Manor School Council last week and children thought of different ways we could add more activity to the school day. One way they talked about was to get everyone to join the laps of the field before school each day and to encourage children to get extra steps in, whether walking or jogging. Exercise before school, even for 5-10 minutes can make a difference to children's health and wellbeing and can prepare them for learning.

The idea we came up with was for children to get a token for each lap they do before the bell to go towards their house team. The tokens will be added up each day and house points awarded for the position each house comes to be announced in our celebration assemblies. Look out for tokens/counters on the tables under the trees coming soon!

Remember, parents are more than welcome to walk round with the children and get a few extra steps to kick-start the day with a bit of exercise!
