Messages from Manor

Dear Parents and Carers

What an eggstremely eggciting time we have had this week! We shell all be ready for a rest after a cracking good time. The weather has been alwhite too... Okay, no more egg *yolks (sorry, *jokes) from now on...promise!

The week started with Year 5 visiting Buzzard's Valley using the Trust minibus, where they built dens and enjoyed a different experience for their Forest School. All week PTA have been active from the Easter Film Night to running Easter competitions, selling uniform, selling sweets and selling hot drinks at church or on the playground. We have had Owls performing brilliantly in church and our swimming team performing brilliantly later the same day in the gala finals at the Snowdome.

Swimming Team with silverware!

Year 6 parents met with Mrs Armstrong for a SATS meeting after Study Club among all the Easter fun, then today we had the incredible Easter Hat Parade for Ducklings, Robins and Swans and the amazing egg dioramas created by Owls and Penguins.

The threads running through all of these activities were fun and community. All of these fun extras, above and beyond the day-to-day teaching and learning that is our core purpose as a school, all create extra work for everyone, but not one staff member, parent or child has shown anything but positive collaborative energy, getting involved, enjoying being creative or celebrating the creativity of others. With everyone doing their bit, it allows all of these things to happen without an undue burden falling on any one person. It has given a great feel to the school and the children have had fun. That puts a smile on all of our faces as we look forward to a two week break.

Have a Happy and Eggcellent Easter.... (oops, broke my promise!)

Parent Survey

Thank you to those who managed to find the time to complete this year's parent survey. The survey grouped questions into 9 modules and a 'key indicator'. The summary results for the key indicator, followed by the 9 modules, are below. These are then compared to the benchmark results of thousands of schools across the country who were asked the same questions. As you can see, Manor had above-average positive responses for all areas apart from one where they were in line with the national average.

There were some interesting areas for us to look at in the comparative strengths and weaknesses in responses to individual questions below.

The warmth of relationships between parents and staff came across in the strengths. The weaker areas were often around the Trust and parental understanding of what Fierté provides for the school. Information about homework also came out 2% below the benchmark with many parents answering this as not applicable, possibly not considering reading practice, spellings and times tables as homework.

The next set of figures are how our question results compare to schools nationally:

Again, there is a clear trust in the strength of the teachers in the school and the open communication channels where staff listen and act on feedback.

For the Parental Confidence question we had a quarter of responses who were neutral saying 'neither optimistic nor pessimistic' for this with no negative responses.

The bottom two results for 'Relationship with the Trust' and Pupil Needs are compared against a benchmark of 100%! We actually had 95% positive responses to these.

Question 45 asked what you value most about the way school works with parents. The following shows the common key words in your responses:

Question 47 asked for messages from parents to school staff. These have been shared with them. Your lovely words are captured in the below:

Over some of the following Newsletters we will look at some of the areas that were commented on and we will let you know where we may make changes in response and address any concerns raised.

Thank you again for taking the time to complete the survey.

Egg Dioramas

Yes, 'diorama' was a new word to me too, a few years ago when I was explaining to staff about an idea for a competition where people made scenes in a box with an egg. It was Mr Forman who said, "Oh, you mean a diorama". After a bit of dictionary/Google checking, that was indeed the exact word we had been after. Now, several years later, it is in common parlance at Manor Primary and part of our Easter tradition!

The time, effort, creativity and imagination that goes into these models never ceases to amaze. Hopefully all have fun taking part. Our Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 winners are pictured below:

Ofsted

Sorry, still no report yet! We have been told it is in the 'Quality Assurance' process and we won't receive it until after Easter now. We will then check it for factual inaccuracies etc. before it is published and sent out to parents. Sorry to keep you waiting!

New Lunchtime Supervisor

We are delighted to announce that our new lunchtime supervisor is Marc Hounslow Hitchman. Marc will officially start in the role after Easter but has already spent this week coming in each day to work alongside Mrs Robinson at lunchtimes to learn the routines. Marc has already shown that he will be a great addition to the Manor team. Welcome, Marc!

Food Waste

We have been asked to not put any food waste into our general waste anymore so have contracted a food waste disposal company to take this for us. This means we need to separate food from any other types of waste in school. We have been setting up bins around school such as in the hall and playground that can be for food only and have been training the children to separate wrappers from food etc. As far as possible we will be asking packed lunch children to take anything they have not eaten and any rubbish home with them in their lunch boxes. This will hopefully help parents to keep track of what their children are eating and what they are leaving etc. Apologies if this means a bit more to clean out when they get home.

PTA Gardening

Over Easter, PTA members are planning to renovate our garden area behind the car park. The aim is to create a peaceful and calming area for children to go at playtimes with a path and some seating areas as well as new raised beds for planting and growing. If anyone would like to help out please do get in touch with any staff or PTA members.

PTA Fundraising

Following all of the activities run by PTA this week they have had income of nearly £1,000! This includes £270 from the wreath-making workshop for parents, £345 from the Movie Night and £321.60 from sales on the playground and drinks etc.

Some of this money will be going towards materials for renovating the garden area over Easter including new seating, a path and raised beds that the children will be able to grow plants in.

PTA wanted to thank parents who have supported them in buying tickets and drinks etc. I know we are all grateful to the PTA for all they do too.
