Messages from Manor

Dear Parents and Carers

This week turned out a bit different to what we had expected in school with a phone call on Monday morning to notify us of an Ofsted inspection starting at 8am on Tuesday and Wednesday. We had two inspectors visiting on the first day and the lead inspector returned on her own on the second day.

The process involved the collection of documents, checking of online systems, observations, interviews and surveys. All stakeholders were spoken to including office, lunchtime, care club and classroom staff, parents, Trust leaders, governors, curriculum subject leaders, SENCO, volunteers, headteacher and of course the children who were interviewed in groups about their learning, at playtimes and lunchtimes about their safety and care, and at any opportunity in between.

The school will be judged in 5 areas:

  • Quality of Education
  • Personal Development
  • Behaviour and Attitudes
  • Early Years
  • Leadership and Management

The inspector has given initial feedback to school leaders, but the report will take time to be written, checked by the school for factual accuracy, moderated and finalised before being published, at which point we will make sure all parents get a copy of the report. Until then, the findings and judgements are confidential.

What we can share at this point are the inspectors' opinions of the children. They thought Manor children were amazing! They were so polite and respectful, displaying their MANOR Values such as Manners. They were confident and funny, articulate and nurturing, open-minded and friendly. If there was an Ofsted judgement for children, I'm sure they would be the highest grade!

The staff were also amazing. The teachers were in from 7am to 7:30pm each day and gave up their PPA time, staff came in to help who weren't scheduled to be in, they worked to cover those who were out being interviewed etc.

Whatever the final judgements might be, we are proud of all of our Manor community and how they pulled together to show their love of this little school with a huge heart.

Staff Vacancy

We have a post that we are advertising for someone to join our Manor Primary Team as a lunchtime supervisor. If you are interested, then please check out the application on the following link.

Parking

That thorny issue of parking has raised its head again. The Village Club have closed their car park for the foreseeable future, unfortunately, and this means some extra inconvenience at the very busy drop-off and pick-up times. Parents will not all be able to park near the school and many will need to use street parking around the village. This means:

  • care must be taken to not block the local residents' access to their properties, such as driveways or the entrance past the church to the houses on New Row, or the narrow lanes entering the village.
  • leaving home a few minutes earlier in case you need to park further away from school and walk for 5 minutes.

It seems that this is a situation we will need to get used to, so good habits and considerate parking are important to become ingrained from the start. Thank you for your support in maintaining our good relationship with our neighbours.

Netball

Our girls' netball team had a great night on Tuesday and enjoyed playing against other schools in a tournament at Rawlett. Our team was all Year 5's apart from Evie so the experience will stand them in good stead for next year. Well done girls; you did us proud!

Parent Survey

Thank you to those who completed our Ofsted survey this week. It was an important part of the inspection and the inspector took the time to read us some of your kind and constructive comments.

Our parent survey is still open if you haven't had a chance to complete it yet. We have 19 surveys completed so far. Thank you to those who have done this. Please click the link below and take 10-15 minutes to add your voice if you haven't managed it yet. Thank you!

PTA Events and Garden

Please check out the dates and the fliers at the end of the Newsletter for the many events planned by our wonderful PTA.

Plans are afoot for a major renovation of the garden area behind the school next to the staff car park. PTA are planning to take some time over Easter to clear old and rotten seating and raised beds and install new paths, seating and planting areas. We hope it will become a 'peace garden' where children can go to chat and read and get away from the crowds.

If you have anything you can offer to our small PTA team such as an hour or two of labour, some potting compost, plants etc. please do ask. If you're not sure who to ask, just speak to Mr Robson on the gate or the ladies in the office.

World Book Day

World Book Day was a great success last week with some fabulous costumes and some fun work around the whole school text that each class worked around. Well done all for ensuring we continue to be a reading school.

Trust Student Council

Next week we welcome children from across the trust to Manor for the first Fierté Trust Student Council meeting since before Covid times. Hopefully, it will start to forge some closer friendships between the children from different schools across the Trust.

Swimming Gala

Last week we had the heats for the swimming gala and our fabulous team of about 15 children represented the school brilliantly. They all swam their hearts out, and we were certainly the loudest at cheering our teammates on! There were three nights of heats with 24 schools entering from across Tamworth. Only the fastest 6 from those heats got through to the finals for each race. Those who got through were Adeline, Adaline, Alena, Pippa and Imogen. The whole team were great and we all wish the finalists well in their finals which take place at the Snowdome on Thursday 10th April.

Scooter Parking

Another parking issue! It is great to see children scooting to school but they have nearly caused Jayne, our cook, to take a tumble when carrying food from the kitchen door back and forth to the freezer which is in the storage on the top of the school driveway. Please could scooters be parked outside the office window next to the red gates at the bottom of the drive. Many thanks for your help.

Arts Festival

We recently shared the exciting news that our children will be participating in a Festival week celebrating song, dance, and art. We are thrilled to announce that we will be collaborating with twenty-two schools from Tamworth and Burton, as well as local high schools, to make this event truly special.

Please note that we have had to amend the original date. Kindly mark your calendars for Saturday, 5th July.

We had sent out letters about the competition to design the logo for this festival and we are starting to get a collection of these handed in. Please could we have any more completed and handed in to school by Friday 28th March.
