Messages from Manor

Dear Parents and Carers

Welcome back to a new school year! It is always great to see the children after a six week break in their shiny new shoes and they always seem to have grown several inches. The children have settled in beautifully, including those who are new to the school, from 3 year olds in our Nursery to Year 6 in Penguins.

I have had the pleasure of teaching Penguins all week which has been good fun for me. Unfortunately it was due to Mrs Armstrong being poorly (including being admitted to hospital for a few days!), but she is well on the road to recovery and has every intention of returning to work on Monday. She is desperate to get back and see her class having only been with them for two days last week.

We have also been a bit short staffed at lunchtimes but Mrs Everett, Mrs O'Brien and other staff have been helping out to make sure the lunchtimes run smoothly. We now have an advert that is going out via Fierté that will be appearing on the  WMJobs website over the weekend. If you fancy getting involved as part of our Manor team looking after our wonderful children over a lunchtime then do look out for the advert. We will send a link to parents next week.

After School Clubs

After school sports clubs start next week for KS2 classes with football for the first half term. We also have a KS1 Lego club that Mr Forman will be starting the following week. Make sure to get letters back as places are limited.

Mrs Armstrong has also mentioned a book club, but we might just let her get back to work before adding more to her load... maybe in a few weeks time though?

We have also secured some KS2 after school rugby clubs run by Leicester Tigers for after half term. This will mean that Miss Cole will be able to run a KS1 sports club after half term too. More info on that nearer the time.

Our breakfast and after school care clubs are being run by Mrs Robinson now. They include food with cereal and toast for breakfast and a snack such as a wrap or something similar for after school, prepared by the kitchen staff. Mrs Robinson has been asking the children what they would like to have included in the club and the children have been enjoying the new giant Jenga blocks and some of the old favourites such as the table football and toy cars etc. If you have any unwanted toys in good condition that you think the children might enjoy then please do think of us.

PTA Message - Asda Rewards App fund raising

WE NEED YOUR HELP

We have 88 days to raise as much money as possible!!!

Between 2nd September and 30th November 2024, every time customers shop with Asda using their Rewards app, they can choose a primary school (Manor Primary Academy) to receive a percentage of their spend. And that’s not all — every time a customer chooses OUR primary school, Asda will donate £1 to your school’s Cashpot, plus a further £50 when your first customer shops.

It’s as easy as 1,2,3 for parents and carers
1. Download the Asda Rewards app and sign up
2. Select your primary school of choice
3. Shop in-store or online at Asda.com

Please share with friends & family

Many Thanks

£500 from Sandhu Stores and Nisa

Thank you again to the Sandhu family who have secured £500 funding for the school from the charity grants that Nisa give away to community organisations. We intend to use some of the money to buy new sports kits for our children to wear when they represent the school. Do remember them next time you need to pop out and get some groceries!

Parking

This is a regular Newsletter item but hopefully we have some good news. The Village Club have kindly re-opened their car park at busy drop off and pick up times to ease congestion in the village. This means that parents and staff are able to use the car park but they need to complete a disclaimer form first. These forms are available from the club (why not pop in for a drink and support the club while picking up the form!?) and we have some forms in school. This means that the club's insurance is affordable for them as cars are then parked there at their own risk.

Can we also politely remind staff and parents to make sure that the access to the back of the houses on New Row beside the church is not blocked at any time.

Volunteers

We are looking for any volunteers who would like to be a regular part of our school team. There are always lots of jobs from preparing resources to hearing readers and more. If you have a bit of time you can spare on a regular basis we would love to hear from you. We have an application form available from the office and we will organise your DBS check etc. Then you will be ready to go. Many of our school staff started their careers with voluntary work in schools so who knows where it will lead!

Safeguarding

Our school year always starts with an INSET Day and the central part of that day is based around safeguarding of children training for all staff. This is focused around the new Keeping Children Safe in Education 2024 document from the government. We also adopt and contextualise the Staffordshire Safeguarding policy for our setting and this is posted on our website. Please do check it out if you have the time on the following link: Manor Safeguarding Policy

School Council and House Captains

A core British Value that we often discuss with the children at school is that of democracy. This message is often clearest when the children are voting for their school council representatives and their house captains and vice captains. After some hotly contested elections and some stirring speeches, the children made some excellent choices. All of those who stood for election, whether successful or not, should be commended for the way they carried themselves and supported the winning candidates... maybe our political future is in good hands after all!

The winners were:

School council

Year 1: William

Year 2: Jacob

Year 3: Pippa and Alex

Year 4: Reuben and Phoebe

Year 5: Alice and Lucy

Year 6: Evie and Eli
