Dear Parents and Carers

Dare we say that summer has finally arrived!? We have actually had a few warm dry days in a row and children have been able to get on the field to play. We also had a fabulous time at the PTA Sports Fest where children enjoyed throwing wet sponges at various teachers and a rather soggy headteacher! Great fun!

Most years, after Easter we have been able to get onto the field in the mornings before school but every time we contemplate making that change to the routines it has rained for the next week. Finally, we are ready to take that leap, so... from Monday please can children be taken down to the field where a track will be marked out for parents and children to walk or run round to get a healthy start to the day. An adult (usually Mr Robson) will be at the entrance to the field and children can be left there if you wish (please could nursery children have someone stay with them until staff from EYFS arrive to collect them).

Please could we ask that:

  • children do not play on the balance trail, tyres, goals or the outdoor classroom. We cannot be responsible for them and there is no staff supervision of these areas.
  • Bags and coats can be put on the designated tables for each class then picked up when the bell goes to line up.
  • Children don't play in the bushes around the edge of the field.

Hopefully we will all get a healthy and active start to the school day and children will be alert and ready to start their learning!

Tennis and athletics

Well done to the children who have been out to sporting events this week and last. Owls had a taster of Spital Hill tennis club when they joined several other schools for a festival of tennis there. Other KS2 children represented the school at the athletics stadium in the Area Sports event; the first since Covid. We started well with Josh B winning the 800 metres then a determined run from Evie took second in the girls  800 metres. All of the team gave there all and got some great experience running on a proper track in front of a crowd, jumping into a sand pit and throwing in the field events. We suffered a bit from not having any girls in Year 6 but our Year 3/4/5 girls' relay team got the biggest cheer of the day for their resilience and 'never say die' attitude coming in behind Year 6's from the other schools. Well done to all the team who came a creditable 5th out of 8 schools.

Fierte Festival Week- The Magic of Writing

As part of our Fierte Trust, all schools will be taking part in a very special Fierte Festival Week. The week will focus specifically on writing and is going to be called ‘The Magic of Writing’. This will take place from Monday 8th July – Friday 12th July.

The aim of the week is to give children the opportunity to immerse themselves fully in the writing process and practice the following skills:

  • - Speaking and listening
  • - Drama
  • - Illustrating
  • - Planning
  • - Drafting
  • - Editing
  • - Publishing

Dressing Up – Monday 8th July

We invite children and staff to dress up on Monday 8th July. Just like World Book Day- please come dressed as a word – the word should be related to magic. There are a few examples below of possible words that could be used. A quick Google search for ‘vocabulary day dress up ideas’ should help with some costume ideas. Please be as creative as possible.

Word Ideas:

enchanted, abracadabra, conjuring, mystical, puzzlement, mythical, mind boggling, bewitch, sparkle, levitate, wonderment, magical, extraordinary, alchemy, dazzling, mystique, spell, fantasy, incantation, disappear, invisible, sleight of hand

Visitors

During this week, the children will be visited by a magician (Magic Mayhem) who will show the children close-up magic. In addition, an author and illustrator will be showing the children how illustrations are created.

Assembly

There will be prizes awarded for various aspects of writing that will be chosen on the Thursday of the week to be awarded on the Friday. We will invite parents of those children chosen so those able to attend at short notice can come along to the assembly. Apologies that we won't be able to give more notice and we understand that some working parents won't be able to attend. We will make a fuss of the children anyway and they will have awards to take home to share.

We are so excited about ‘The Magic of Writing’ week.

Please speak to Mrs Armstrong/ Mr Robson if you have any questions.

Parking for Sports Day and Scooters

Thank you to Molly's mum who has organised the Parish Council to open the Park car park for us on Sports Day. This will hopefully relieve some of the pressure on parking around the village on a busy day. Thank you to all those who are still parking with consideration for our neighbours in the village ensuring no access is blocked to properties.

It has also been good to see the number of children riding scooters and bikes to school. Please could we ask that they are not left outside the kitchen as kitchen staff have tripped over them when carrying items to the bins. You are more than welcome to leave scooters and bikes in the green plastic rack next to our car park or against fences down the side of the building. This is obviously at your own risk as we do have our grounds maintenance team who squeeze their lorry down the drive trying to avoid any bikes that stick out!

PTA Facebook Page

Our wonderful PTA have lots of events and activities planned this term. Just see the calendar dates and posters below, and the website calendar, for a flavour of these. They now have a Facebook Page set up. Just search Manor PTA and give them a 'follow' to keep up with their latest news.
