Dear Parents and Carers

It was brilliant to see so many supporters joining us for Sports Day this week; especially after we had to change the day at relatively short notice. The weather worked out well and the children had lots of fun and excitement running their races in front of so many people. Check out the News item below for some photos of the day.

A great addition to the day was the sale of hot drinks and uniform by our wonderful PTA. They added over £100 to their funds which have supported school over the year. They had already made over £2000 this year since they started before Christmas. Details of their year are included on the poster at the bottom of this Newsletter. There is also a poster advertising their upcoming uniform sale. Perfectly smart uniform that others have grown out of that will save you a few pounds.

New Local Authority Criteria for Penalty Notices in September

The first Penalty Notices for leave in term time will increase to £160 per parent per child but can be reduced to £80 per parent per child if paid within 21 days.

The three-year rolling period starts for parents when the first penalty notice is issued to them after the 19th August 2024.

If a second penalty notice is issued within three years of the first penalty notice, then this will be at a fixed rate of £160 per parent per child, with no reduction for early payment.

A third penalty notice cannot be issued within the three-year period; therefore, the county council will deal with any further unauthorised leave through prosecution in the Magistrates Court. If found guilty the potential fine is up to £1000.

Cardboard Tubes Helping to Shine a Light

Owls have been making their own torches. They have the electrics all sorted but need to create the bodies of their torches. If you have any small boxes, egg boxes or cardboard tubes that they could use, please drop them in to Mr Lloyd via the office. Thank you!

Late Sign in/early pick up, on Screen

We now have our children included on the sign-in screen outside the office as 'Manor Learners'. If children are late in the morning or parents are picking children up early (e.g. for a medical appointment), their parent will be asked to sign them in or out on the screen rather than filling in a slip of paper, hopefully saving time (and paper/trees!). Office staff will help with this where needed. Thank you for your cooperation and support.

5 Star Kitchen Rating

No more than we expect really, but I just thought I would mention that we have retained our 5 star rating from a surprise HSE Food Hygiene inspection of our kitchen this week. Not only the highest standards of food (that I enjoy eating every day!) but excellent standards of hygiene and food safety too! Thank you to our fabulous kitchen staff for their hard work.

Mrs Smith

We are sad to say that Mrs Smith who works in the afternoons in EYFS is leaving us at the end of this term. She has been offered a full time post at another school on a higher pay grade so would have been foolish not to accept! Mrs Smith has had two spells at Manor having started in 2013. She left for another job in 2016 before returning in 2017 for her current post - 10 years in total. She has been a much loved and excellent TA in that time. We wish Mrs Smith the best of luck in her new post.

Magic of Writing Festival

Next week is our exciting Fierté Festival week with 'the Magic of Writing' as our theme. Children and staff are asked to join us in dressing up on Monday as 'magical words'. There are no rules, just choose a word that might be to do with magic and be as creative as you want. Try to incorporate the word into the outfit or safety pin it on.

On the Monday afternoon we have award winning children's book illustrator, Steve Smallman, visiting the classes in school. Steve will be selling signed copies of his books for £6 each after school on the playground.

Transition to new Year Groups

Next week is the week that high schools around Tamworth invite Year 6 to spend several days getting to know them ready for next year. This gives us the opportunity to have a transition day in school where children spend the day in the class they will be in next year. This is planned for Wednesday 10th July. Children will come in as normal and register, then there will be a short assembly and children will then go with the teacher they will have next year and work on team building/getting to know you type activities.

We are aware that we haven't made a formal announcement, but it is no secret that teachers will be remaining in their current class for another year. In previous years, we have held parent meetings for parents to meet the teacher and for teachers to present what they expect and how their classroom works etc.

Last year there were hardly any parents who came (mostly they know the teacher anyway!), so this year we haven't set up a formal meeting, but teachers will today post a PowerPoint with their presentation for parents to read on their class page of the website and send a link to parents on Marvellous Me.

Having read the presentation, any parents who would still like to drop in informally and say hello to the teacher or to ask any questions are welcome to pop in straight after school on Monday 15th July.
