Messages from Manor

Dear Parents and Carers

It seemed appropriate that we were driving through flooded, rain soaked roads on our way to the Tamworth Primary Schools Swimming Gala Heats this week. Our swimmers stayed relatively dry until they got into the pool at Belgrave where they all swam brilliantly. Before the start we agreed that they would do their best and would get out of the pool with a smile whether they were first or last. We wait to see whose times were fast enough to get through to the finals at the Snowdome but all 15 children were brilliantly behaved and supportive of each other. They were all winners in our eyes! They also got to high 5 Oliver and Harry Wright who were helping to time the races. Oliver and Harry are ex-Manor pupils who are elite county/national standard swimmers who won lots of swimming gala trophies in their time at Manor.

The rain also washed away the chance for EYFS to do forest school with Miss Clarkson this week. Hopefully it will stop in time for next Tuesday when Miss Clarkson can use her Forest School qulaification to support them in our Forest School area. Also, Year 1 and Year 5 will be starting a block of forest school next week with our other Forest School qualified staff member, Mrs Viollet.

Could we also remind everyone that we are 'nut free school'. This has an added importance because Miss Clarkson has a nut allergy so any contact with nuts (especially peanuts) could be potentially life-threatening. Please keep a raised awareness when sending anything into school such as food and food packaging such as cereal boxes for junk modelling for instance. Thank you for your support in this.

You will see from the 'News and Events' section below that we had a successful music concert at the end of last half term. This has obviously inspired the children with about half a dozen new customers for the instrumental tuition we offer with specialist music teachers. We currently have guitar, saxophone, clarinet and flute being taught. If you're child is interested, please just pop into the office to speak to Mrs Everett or Mrs O'Brien. If the cost is something that is putting you off, there are some generous grants available for anyone that applies. You don't need to have been on benefits etc. The music teachers tell us there is a poor take up so there are unspent funds available if you apply. If successful you may get part or all of the tuition paid for. Lack of finance should never be something that prevents a child exploring their potential.

World Book Day

See the dates below for details for World Book Day on 7th March. We are asking children to join us in dressing up as a favourite character from a book. We are also adding a fun competition for those who wish to take part. If you have a spare wooden spoon or cardboard tube (e.g. kitchen or loo roll middle) we would like the children to decorate them as a book character and bring them in on World Book Day where the best ones will win a prize. We hope they will make a great display like those in the photos above and below. Don't forget to add your name to the back so we know who has done all the hard work!

Parents' Evening

An exclellent turnout of parents as ever for our parent/teacher consultation meetings before half term. If you weren't able to make it and haven't been able to rearrange yet, please do arrange a meeting with your child's teacher. These are vital meetings for sharing information that ensures the best support for the children with home and school working together.

Parking

Polite reminder to please continue parking considerately outside school. The photo below is taken from a video in January that was posted on social media and was sent to school by the Parish Council who have reported it to the Highways Agency and Police. This clearly shows the access to New Row blocked by cars meaning about 10 houses have no access to get out to go to work or for emergency vehicles etc. If it is not possible to park safely and considerately here then you may need to drive further into the village and walk for a couple of minutes instead (even if it's raining!). If this problem continues there are likely to be sanctions taken against drivers and the school. I know it is only a few on the odd occasion who do this but it does cause friction for the school when we want to be good neighbours. Thank you for your support in this.

Ancient Egyptian Scrolls!
Five weeks of work learning about the Ancient Egyptians and their art has culminated in Owls Class creating their very own 'ancient' scrolls. Children created their art pieces on their very own 'papyrus' paper made from recycled parcel paper strips. Their art uses a mixture of Ancien...
