Why is the Great Barrier Reef significant?

Penguins class have been having fun in our new Kapow Geography lessons by combining reading and writing to explore the question - 'Why is the Great Barrier Reef significant?

Children have been working with atlases, books and websites to research facts to answer our question of the lesson.

Here are some  facts we found out ....

  • The Great Barrier Reef is the largest living thing on Earth.
  • It is as large as 70 million football pitches.
  • Over 9000 different species live in the reef.
  • The Great Barrier Reef can be seen from space.

Why not ask someone in penguins what other facts they have found out and why the barrier reef is so important?
