Science in Penguins

This September, Penguins Class has been busy exploring some fascinating scientific concepts and developing their understanding of how our world and beyond works.

The children began by investigating gravity, learning about the invisible force that pulls objects towards the Earth. Through a range of exciting experiments, pupils made predictions, observed results and discovered that gravity affects everything around us. They especially enjoyed testing different objects and discussing why they fell to the ground.

We then turned our attention to planet size as part of our exploration of space. The class compared the planets in our solar system and were amazed to discover the enormous difference in size between rocky planets like Earth and giant planets such as Jupiter. Using models and practical activities, the children developed a better understanding of the vast scale of our solar system.

The children investigated how air can slow objects down as they move through it. Through hands-on experiments, including designing and testing simple parachutes, pupils explored how shape and surface area can affect the speed at which an object falls. It was wonderful to see the children thinking like scientists, asking thoughtful questions and evaluating their findings.
