Owls have been studying the abstract sculptures of Robert Morris and Sir Anthony Caro. The latter artist helped to design the Millenium Bridge in London. The first session challenged the children to create shapes out of card and create abstract sculptures with no other resources – simply the card itself. This led to some creative thinking - for example, folding strips of card into concertina shapes to balance other pieces on. In the second session, the children developed this further by introducing a range of joining techniques such as slotting or using glue or tape. There have been some very creative ideas coming to life – which is great to see. There might even be some future artists, designers or architects amongst Owls!
